Why Union? Why Now? -

Watch the video that tells our story.

A heart of open space encircled by magnificent buildings: that’s Union. We are a school where nothing less than God is the subject of our study, and where the care of the world is our calling. We are Christian, ecumenical, interreligious, world-engaged, broad in thought, and welcoming to all who venture in.

Brigette Kahl

Union celebrates the beginning of its 178th Academic Year

Join us for the Convocation of the Union's 178th academic year, at 6:10 p.m. in James Memorial Chapel on Wednesday, September 10. The ceremony recognizes and officially matriculates our incoming class. Union professor Dr. Brigitte Kahl will deliver an address to frame our study, work, and prayer, with a reception to follow in the Social Hall. The title of Dr. Kahl address is: “Gaia and Ekklesia at the Market Gate: A visual reading of the Biblical Earth Story in Rev 12:16.”

Union’s 178th Convocation will be live-streamed, and we invite family and friends to join us virtually in this celebration.

'Happy' in NYC!

Happiness at Union as a religious practice.

Why are we happy at Union? Individual expression, social justice, community. And Pharrell Williams.

Union Theological Seminary in the City of New York is a seminary and a graduate school of theology established in 1836 by founders “deeply impressed by the claims of the world upon the church.” Union prepares women and men for committed lives of service to the church, academy, and society. A Union education develops practices of mind and body that foster intellectual and academic excellence, social justice, and compassionate wisdom. Grounded in the Christian tradition and responsive to the needs of God’s creation, Union’s graduates make a difference wherever they serve.
