Kelby Harrison
Post-Doctoral Fellow in Social Ethics
Kelby Harrison completed her Ph.D. in the Spring of 2010 at
Northwestern University in the Philosophy Department and Gender Studies Program.
Her dissertation, "The Ethics of Passing: a Theoretical and Practical
Analysis," critically assesses sexual passing through an ethical lens
focusing on identity and sexuality discourses with a particular focus on the
effects of oppression on our practical morality. Dr. Harrison's current work
focuses on constructive ethics for LGBTQ persons as well as critical evaluation
of cultural, theological, and secular sexual ethics. She has a strong interest
in the past, present, and future of queer liberation theology.
Dr. Harrison has taught at Loyola University in Chicago, Dominican
University, and both the day school and continuing education programs at
Northwestern University in the areas of philosophy of religion, practical
problems in gender and sexuality, the history of philosophy, social justice,
and ethics. However, she does not perceive there to be clear distinctions between
any of these areas. She has been recognized by Northwestern University and the
Human Rights Campaign for her LGBTQ activism and leadership.
