On April 18, 2014 at 5:30pm you’re invited to join Metro Hope Church on the Via Dolorosa - a silent walk of sorrow and solidarity through 125th Street, the iconic Martin Luther King Boulevard.
On Good Friday, when followers of Jesus remember Jesus’ execution on a Roman cross, Metro Hope Church (www.metrohopenyc.org) is organizing local faith communities, organizations and community members to listen to Jesus’ Passion through the voices of those criminalized and crucified on our streets, in our homes, schools and neighborhoods.
We will gather in James Chapel, Union Theological Seminary located at 3041 Broadway Ave, New York, NY 10027 and walk east on 125th Street until Fifth Avenue where we will share in Communion at Harlem’s historic National Black Theatre, 2031-33 5th Avenue, New York, NY 10035.
All are welcomed to join this peace march, taking pause along the Way for local poets to raise their voices, youth to speak their stories, and song leaders to sing the truth of our common humanity. We will conclude with Communion at one Table. This is a public act of solidarity, the commitment to suffer together and transform the violence around and within us into peace.
Via Dolorosa is the creative collaboration of Metro Hope Church, Union Theological Seminary in the City of New York, and Connect Harlem. For more information or to get involved as a partnering church, organization or community member, please contact Chantilly Mers at firstname.lastname@example.org.
